Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar (1/4 cup sugar mixed with 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon)
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt to the mixture and stir until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- After rising, divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into sticks.
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel stick for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
- Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and coarse salt.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For best freshness, eat the pretzels the same day they are made. Can be frozen for longer storage.
