Description
Deliciously crispy shrimp coated in panko and tossed in a creamy, sweet-spicy bang bang sauce, perfect for a quick snack or weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the buttermilk with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add the shrimp and stir so each piece is coated. Let the shrimp marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator to tenderize and boost flavor.
- While the shrimp marinates, put the panko breadcrumbs in another bowl and add a pinch of salt. When the shrimp finish marinating, remove each piece and let excess buttermilk drip off. Dredge the shrimp in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the crumbs stick and the shrimp are evenly coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place the breaded shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray the shrimp lightly with cooking spray to help them brown. Cook for 8–10 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping the shrimp halfway through, until they are golden and crispy and the shrimp are opaque and firm.
- In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha to make the bang bang sauce. Taste and adjust heat or sweetness if needed. Serve the crispy shrimp hot with the bang bang sauce for dipping or drizzle the sauce over the shrimp for a saucier finish.
Notes
For extra crunch, double-coat the shrimp by dipping them back in buttermilk and then into panko again. Best served immediately.
