Description

A delightful dessert infused with warm spices and rich molasses, perfect for festive occasions or as a cozy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and packed brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and molasses, mixing until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with hot water. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar or whipped cream. Pairs well with coffee or spiced tea.
