Description

A comforting dish of juicy hamburger steaks topped with a rich gravy made from caramelized onions and earthy mushrooms, perfect for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Form the ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper. Cook the patties until browned on both sides and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until the onions are translucent and mushrooms are tender.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to combine. Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
  4. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for a few minutes to heat through. Serve the hamburger steaks with onion and mushroom gravy over rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes

Use higher-fat ground beef (like 80/20) for juicier patties. For extra flavor, sauté garlic along with the onions and mushrooms.
