Description

A rich and creamy holiday favorite, Homemade Eggnog features a hint of nutmeg and can be spiked with bourbon or rum for an extra kick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup bourbon or rum (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined and frothy, about 2 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat until just simmering, stirring occasionally.
  3. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture while continuously whisking. Return to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it thickens slightly, about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, nutmeg, and alcohol if using. Allow to cool, then refrigerate until chilled. Serve in glasses with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.

Notes

Best served cold. Can be garnished with a dollop of whipped cream or a cinnamon stick.
