Description
A rich and creamy holiday favorite, Homemade Eggnog features a hint of nutmeg and can be spiked with bourbon or rum for an extra kick.
Ingredients

- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup bourbon or rum (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined and frothy, about 2 minutes.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat until just simmering, stirring occasionally.
- Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture while continuously whisking. Return to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it thickens slightly, about 5-10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, nutmeg, and alcohol if using. Allow to cool, then refrigerate until chilled. Serve in glasses with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.
Notes
Best served cold. Can be garnished with a dollop of whipped cream or a cinnamon stick.
