Description

A cozy, comforting weeknight dinner featuring tender beef patties smothered in savory mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil for frying
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)
  • Cooked potatoes or rice for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix gently until just combined — do not overwork the meat to keep the patties tender.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties about 3/4-inch thick. Press lightly in the center of each patty.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove the patties and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until tender and golden, about 3–5 minutes. Pour in the beef broth, scrape up any brown bits, and bring to a gentle simmer. Return the patties, cover, and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through. If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix the cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry, then stir it into the sauce and cook until thickened.
  5. Serve hot over cooked potatoes or rice.

Notes

Serve with steamed green beans, roasted carrots, or a simple green salad for added freshness.
