- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 12 large egg whites
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon lime zest
- 1/2 cup key lime juice
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare the ingredients.
- Beat the egg whites until frothy, add cream of tartar, lime zest, and vanilla; continue until soft peaks form.
- Gradually fold in the sifted flour and sugar mixture, then gently incorporate the key lime juice until smooth.
- Pour the batter into an ungreased angel food cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and a skewer inserted comes out clean.
- Invert the pan onto a cooling rack to cool completely before removing and dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
Ensure egg whites are at room temperature for better volume. Do not grease the pan to allow the cake to rise properly.
