Description

Start your Valentine’s morning with soft, chocolatey red velvet pancakes topped with tangy cream cheese frosting, perfect for a cozy breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until smooth. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  3. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter per pancake onto the skillet. Cook until bubbles form and edges look set, about 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook until golden brown on the other side, about 1–2 more minutes.
  4. Serve the pancakes warm, topped with cream cheese frosting.

Notes

For extra fluff, separate the egg and fold in the beaten white last. Can substitute with natural coloring like beet powder.
