Description

A comforting and hearty Shepherd’s Pie made with tender meat, vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground lamb or beef. Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic, cooking until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the peas, tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let simmer until well combined.
  4. Boil the cubed potatoes until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  5. Spread the meat mixture into a baking dish and top with mashed potatoes.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra crispy top, broil for 1-2 minutes after baking.
