Description
A delightful dessert with the warmth of spices and sweetness of ripe pears, topped with a luscious caramel layer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 ripe pears, sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan and set it aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until well combined and bubbling. Add the sliced pears, sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg, and cook for about 5 minutes until the pears soften slightly.
- Pour the pear mixture into the prepared cake pan, spreading the slices evenly. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the sugar and remaining butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Pour this batter over the pear mixture in the cake pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool slightly before carefully inverting it onto a serving plate.
