Description

A delightful dessert with the warmth of spices and sweetness of ripe pears, topped with a luscious caramel layer.


Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears, sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan and set it aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until well combined and bubbling. Add the sliced pears, sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg, and cook for about 5 minutes until the pears soften slightly.
  3. Pour the pear mixture into the prepared cake pan, spreading the slices evenly. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, cream together the sugar and remaining butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Pour this batter over the pear mixture in the cake pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool slightly before carefully inverting it onto a serving plate.

Notes

Best served warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
