- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
- 1/2 cup chocolate shavings (optional for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water, then fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
- Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
