Description

A simple, homey dessert with a soft, custard-like center and a golden, cake-like top, infused with warm vanilla and butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish (8×8-inch) with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until thick and pale. Mix in melted butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until combined, then stir in water.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and spread evenly. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and the custard is slightly wobbly in the center.
  4. Let it cool on a wire rack before serving warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar and fresh berries or ice cream for an added treat. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
