Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Cremini or white button mushrooms (stems removed)
  • 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by cleaning your mushrooms with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. Avoid soaking them in water, as mushrooms act like sponges and will become soggy. Pop the stems out of the mushroom caps and set the caps aside. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir the minced garlic, dried parsley, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper into the melted butter. In a separate shallow bowl, mix the Panko breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.
  2. Place the mushroom caps into a large mixing bowl. Pour the garlic butter mixture over the mushrooms and toss gently until every cap is thoroughly coated. Once the mushrooms are buttery, dip each cap individually into the Panko and Parmesan mixture. Press the breadcrumbs firmly onto the top and sides of the mushrooms to ensure a thick, even crust. For extra crunch, you can double-dip them back into any remaining butter and then the crumbs.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (185°C) for about 3 minutes. Arrange the coated mushroom caps in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure they are not touching so the hot air can circulate freely around each piece. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes. At the halfway mark, give the basket a gentle shake or use tongs to check for even browning. The mushrooms are ready when the coating is golden brown and the caps have softened slightly.
  4. Transfer the hot mushroom caps to a serving platter immediately. Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley for a pop of color and a final dusting of Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve these while they are piping hot to enjoy the maximum contrast between the crispy exterior and the juicy interior. These pair beautifully with a side of creamy garlic aioli or a simple ranch dipping sauce.
