Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large pita breads (white or whole wheat)
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons Zaatar seasoning blend
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (optional, as some Zaatar blends already contain salt)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by slicing each pita bread into eight even triangles. You can do this easily with a sharp knife or a pizza cutter. If your pita has a pocket, you can separate the two layers for extra-thin, ultra-crispy chips, or leave them together for a heartier crunch. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the extra-virgin olive oil, Zaatar seasoning, and sea salt. Add the pita triangles to the bowl and toss thoroughly until every piece is well-coated in the herb and oil mixture.
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about two minutes. Place the seasoned pita triangles into the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, pull out the basket and give it a good shake to ensure the chips brown evenly. Keep a close eye on them during the last two minutes, as they can go from golden to burnt very quickly.
- Once the chips are golden brown and feel firm to the touch, remove them from the air fryer. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Transfer the chips to a wire rack or a large plate. Serve them warm or at room temperature with your favorite dips like hummus, baba ganoush, or labneh. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley if you want a pop of color.
