Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup white chocolate chips, melted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons culinary-grade matcha powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (for decorating)
- 32 edible candy eyes
- Black decorating gel (optional for extra details)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang on the sides. This makes it easy to lift the brownies out once they are cooled. Grease the parchment lightly with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and the melted white chocolate. Ensure the white chocolate is not too hot when you add it, or it might scramble the eggs.
- Sift the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, and salt directly into the wet mixture. Sifting is crucial for matcha because it tends to clump easily. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet batter using a spatula. Mix only until no white streaks remain. Do not overmix, or the brownies will become cakey instead of fudgy.
- Pour the green batter into your prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. The edges should be set, but the center should still be slightly soft. Insert a toothpick; it should come out with a few moist crumbs. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan.
- Once cooled, lift the brownies out and cut them into 16 rectangles. Melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Dip the top edge of each brownie rectangle into the melted chocolate to create “hair.” Use a toothpick or a piping bag to draw a zigzag mouth and small “bolts” or “stitches” on the sides of the face. Finally, use a tiny dot of melted chocolate to stick two candy eyes onto each brownie.
